About Me

I’m somewhat of a backyard guitarist—self-taught mainly with a couple of college credits in music and guitar. I was blessed to be mentored early on by a skilled Navy veteran who had just returned from service. We were neighbors, and I was 14 when he started showing me the ropes on playing rhythm guitar. I’d already been trying to learn and messing around with the guitar, but over the next two years, we played together at parties and jammed constantly. This was back in 1978, and I soaked up all the classic ’70s rock that was shaping music at the time.

But the spark really started earlier. I was just a kid in Roswell, NM when I saw my cousin Zach play his electric Gibson SG in 1969. That image lit my mind up and never left. Since then, I’ve played in a handful of semi-professional bands, kept composing, and eventually followed the footsteps of one of my favorite artists Steven Wilson by recording music from home. I released my first self-produced album in 2016 and now have two albums out under the artist name Det L, available globally.

Alternate tunings are my thing—they fascinate me. I’m always exploring new sounds, and I’m happy to share that knowledge with others.
